One of the most desirable effects of good design is making an impact. But nowadays, when creating anything from office space to lighting, it is equally important to consider how design can be used to minimise the impact on the environment. Rana, the new offereing from Havells Sylvania, one of the leading global designers and suppliers of lighting systems, is a new tool for innovative lighting solutions that is designed not only to provide exceptional light quality but also to be efficient, versatile and environmentally friendly.
The Rana range launched in March this year is offered in two versions: the Rana Surface and the Rana Recess. Using class-leading innovations such as the new 1092 louvres, Rana provides large energy savings without having to save on design, light quality or versatility. This unique European in-house design allows for a wide range of uses. Rana Surface’s small and sleek body and the shallow adaptive form of Rana Recess allows both products to be used in spaces where ceiling height is limited or in areas where energy consumption is the key.
Rana Surface
The design of Rana Surface is very innovative: high-quality, high performance aluminium optics, combined with an extremely small and sleek body. It creates a fixture that provides exceptional light with exceptional energy savings. With a 92% efficiency level, Rana Surface can cut energy consumption by more than 40% making it a landmark in terms of efficiency. These energy savings are coupled with exceptional lighting quality. Thanks to the revolutionary new 1092 louvres, glare is always kept well below 800 cd/m². Rana Surface can be surface mounted or suspended and its sleek, red-rimmed body also houses the ballast that gives it a minimalist design look. The modules are easy to interconnect and line-up with an invisible linear connection system. Both direct and direct/indirect lighting are offered.
Rana Recess
A smaller package makes a larger impact. That’s the thinking that went into the designing of Rana Recess. Thanks to 1092 louvres and the unique design of Rana Recess, fewer tubes are used for better lighting. For example, three 14 watt tubes in Rana Recess outperform other fixtures using four 18 watt tubes. High gloss aluminium optics with an 92% degree of efficiency and combined with glare levels below 800 cd/m² further add to the fact that Rana Recess is a standard in efficiency. The design of Rana Recess is inspired by the art of Origami where the fixtures are ‘folded’ from one single sheet of metal. This creates a new, striking shape and also reduces the amount of material and energy needed for construction. Since, the resulting product is more shallow and compact, the environmental impact of packaging and shipping is minimised as well. Rana Recess is available as 2-lamp, 3-lamp or 4-lamp version.
The new 1092 louvres
The new 1092 louvres are a true reflection of Havells Sylvania’s dedication to innovative and ecological lighting solutions. 1092 louvre optics are made from high gloss aluminium that reflects 99.6% of the light emitted by the tubes. The light is distributed much more efficiently with only miniscule amount being lost or obscured. This is achieved in combination with the back reflectors. This allows for leser number of tubes to be inserted in a fixture. The same quantity of light can be achieved with three 14 watt tubes which otherwise would normally require four 18 watt tubes. The glare levels of 1092 louvres are always below 800 cd/m².
